Concentration in Psychology and Law

Concentration in Psychology and Law

"The goal of this Concentration is to provide students with a strong foundation in psychology and its applications to the legal system. Core courses in developmental, social, and clinical psychology prepare students for specialized courses in psychology and law and forensic psychology, which explore legal decision-making, criminal behavior, forensic assessment, and wrongful convictions. Courses on drugs and behavior, trauma, cultural psychology, and addiction provide insight into psychological and social factors influencing justice system involvement. At completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to apply psychological principles to careers in forensic psychology, law, social work, criminal justice, corrections, and rehabilitation, as well as graduate studies in related fields.

Future career paths: This concentration provides foundational knowledge for students wishing to pursue further graduate studies (e.g., in forensic psychology, criminology, or social work with a forensic specialization), law degrees (JD, LLB), post-graduate certificates and diploma programs at colleges (e.g., forensic mental health, victimology, addictions and mental health, correctional services, and law enforcement foundations), or to directly enter the workforce (e.g., law enforcement and corrections, victim advocacy, child and youth support work, crisis intervention, etc.)"
