The Concentration in Psychological Humanities, Contexts and Communities

This concentration focuses on the critical assessment and constructive development of psychological theories, methods, and practices for global and local contexts. Drawing as much on the psychological humanities as on the sciences, it offers an understanding of the psychological that includes but moves beyond the individual, the clinic, and the laboratory, to consider consequences for communities and cultures. The psychological humanities look to approaches in the humanities and arts (e.g., history, philosophy, political theory, science and technology studies, feminism, literature) in order to discuss and deliver substantive content on psychosocial issues. The psychological humanities often take an explicit ethical stand and address processes and systems of injustice.
